The Blood Connection Celebrates Grand Opening of Danville Community Blood Center
The Blood Connection (TBC) is celebrating a major milestone in Southside Virginia with the grand opening of its new Danville Community Blood Center. After assuming operations of the Sovah Health Blood Donor Center earlier this fall, TBC is expanding access to lifesaving blood donations and strengthening support for patients at Sovah Health – Danville.
The permanent center, located at 159 Executive Drive, Suite K, Danville, VA 24541 marks TBC’s first fixed-site donor center in Southside Virginia and increases the community’s access to a safe, reliable local blood supply. With the opening of this new location, residents can now have a dedicated space to give whole blood, platelets and other lifesaving components, along with ongoing mobile blood drives throughout the region.
All blood collected in Danville will remain in Danville, supporting surgeries, cancer treatment, childbirth related emergencies and other essential patient needs. By keeping donations local, TBC and Sovah Health – Danville help ensure the community has access to the blood products it needs every day.
“Every patient who walks through the doors of Sovah Health – Danville depends on someone in this community choosing to give,” said Delisa English, President & CEO of The Blood Connection. “This center makes it easier for Danville donors to continue giving where they live, ensuring a steady, local blood supply for their neighbors, families and friends. We are grateful for the support of this community and proud to stand alongside Sovah Health in saving lives.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the center on Tuesday, December 9, featuring remarks from Delisa English, President & CEO of The Blood Connection; Steve Heatherly, Market President of Sovah Health and Danville City Councilman Gary Miller. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the new center, meet TBC leadership and learn more about the organization’s vital role in supporting hospitals across the Southeast.
TBC encourages local businesses, schools, churches and civic organizations to get involved by hosting drives or encouraging residents to visit the new center.
