New Blood Donation Center Opens in Spartanburg

The Blood Connection Connects with Donors to Save Lives

Patients receiving organ transplants, cancer therapies, and support for sickle cell anemia all depend on life-saving transfusions. Blood is critical to the survival of premature babies and patients undergoing heart or joint replacement surgery.  It also plays a life-saving role in serious accidents, civil and military conflicts, and widespread tragedies like earthquakes and hurricanes.

To better serve the Spartanburg community, The Blood Connection is pleased to announce the opening of a new donation center at 270 North Grove Medical Park Drive.  It officially opens on April 2 at 8 a.m. and welcomes donors to a newly-designed center focused exclusively on donor comfort.

According to President and CEO Greg Hart, the center will help The Blood Connection serve a broader community and a greater number of people in need of blood.  “We are committed to the needs of our local communities and want to ensure that there is always an adequate supply of blood and convenient opportunities for people to donate.”

Located near Spartanburg Regional Diagnostics Center, Piedmont Eye Associates, and the V.A. Outpatient Clinic in the North Grove Medical Park, the new 5,600 square-foot facility is both state-of-the-art and donor friendly.  A nature-inspired theme creates a welcoming experience from the center design flow to the exterior landscaping.  Donors will enjoy natural light, calming colors and a relaxing environment.

The Spartanburg Donation Center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.  To be among the first to donate in the new center, please call  1-800-392-6551 for an appointment.

For more information, contact The Blood Connection by visiting thebloodconnection.org, become a fan on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter at “BloodConnection.”  Founded in 1979, The Blood Connection is the largest non-profit community blood center in Upstate South Carolina.  It provides 100% of the volunteer blood supply to all hospitals in Greenville, Greenwood, Pickens, Oconee, Laurens, Union, Spartanburg and Newberry Counties, as well as hospitals in Stephens County, GA and western NC.  The Blood Connection has centers in five upstate counties and has an average of ten blood drives every day collecting over 110,000 units of blood, platelets and plasma each year.  It serves as the connection between volunteer blood donors, hospitals and patients needing life-saving transfusions.  The Blood Connection is licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
