Transparency

Nonprofit Transparency: What does it mean?

To us, nonprofit transparency means employing one or more open arenas to display information relevant to anyone who wishes to measure the fulfillment of our mission to the stakeholders we serve. Also, our income tax exemption and our ability to receive tax-deductable contributions oblige us to be accountable to the public.

Recent for-profit business excursions beyond the boundaries of public trust have resulted in more government-mandated accountability regulations and stricter enforcement of penalties against entities and individuals involved in such indiscretions. We prefer voluntary compliance with basic transparency guidelines over more regulations. We also embrace more nonprofit transparency, not as a bulwark against regulation, but rather as a sensible and reasonable response to needs of engaged patrons, beneficiaries, and mission partners. And, it’s the right thing to do!

We have chosen this section of our website for the convenient open arena it provides for posting key transparency information and for the convenience it affords those wishing access to the information. But, it is not the only public medium. GuideStar USA, Inc. www.guidestar.org is now a major source of information about organizations in the nonprofit sector of American business. We have posted transparency information in our GuideStar profile which can be accessed here. GuideStar also publishes transparency guidelines and checklists that we have employed in creating this accountability section of our website.
