schleinDr. Bruce Schlein (Greenville) is a retired pathologist and has taught at Duke University Medical School and The University of Alabama Birmingham. He has also been instructing and exhibiting photography since 1960. Schlein has taught photography at the Greenville County Museum School of Art and enjoys working with several lifelong educational programs at Furman University. Mainly self-taught, his favorite subjects include street and people scenes in urban areas. Schlein says that every subject a photographer sees has a special feel or sense to it. When he can catch that essence, the photograph is fun to look at.

The photographs on display at The Blood Connection include an eclectic group of images including close-ups, graffiti, people, nature, and old junk. His work is on permanent display at the Historic Greenville Foundation Museum. Dr. Schlein’s work can also be found in numerous exhibits around the country, some as far away as the New York Public Library, Staten Island. He can be contacted at schleinb@att.net.

winbergAlan Weinberg (Greenville) is a retired Global V.P. of Research, Development and Engineering with Cryovac, now Sealed Air Corporation. When Weinberg began in photography 20 years ago, he worked entirely with black and white images from the camera to the darkroom. Today all his work is digital. As an engineer, he said the technology of photography was a simple concept, but the artistic expression was a greater challenge. He believes that photography is more of a reflection of who is behind the camera than what is in front of it. Weinberg enjoys using software programs that allow him to expand his creative expression. Finding his inner self has become Weinberg’s motivation and passion.

Weinberg has been studying photography independently and with Dr. Schlein for over 20 years, but The Blood Connection is his first public exhibit. He too enjoys working with Furman’s lifelong educational programs. Several of his prints have been selected at juried art museum competitions. He can be contacted at aweinberg@bellsouth.net.
